A short article about our church history

This church is located at Lakeland Avenue and McGavock Pike, Donelson, Tennessee.  The Formation of this church grew out of a Mission conducted by Elder J. D. Birdwell which had its beginning on Wednesday night, october 17, 1956.  This Mission was conducted at the Pennington Bend Home Demonstration Club, formerly a Schoolhouse at Pennington Bend and McGavock Pike.

After meeting here for about nine months, it ws decided to organize, which was effected July 28, 1957, with 19 charter members.  The organization service was held in the building in which the group had been meeting, and there was a large presbytery at the house filled with perople, with an enjoyable service.

The majority of the charter members came from McFerrin Baptist Church in Nashville, of which Elder J. D. Birdwell was a member.  McFerrin Church extended an arm to this mission for the work and organization.  The church elected Elder J. D. Birdwell as their first pastor.  The meeting place was moved from the Pennington Bend Club House September 1957 where they worshiped until January 1962, when the new house of worship was constructed and they moved into it, which is the present house and location.
